Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free, known for their creative endeavors in the music industry, are expanding their portfolio into the world of film. The duo is teaming up with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for a new live-action comedy film set to hit theaters on July 4, 2025.
The announcement was made during Paramount Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Paramount film chief Brian Robbins expressed his excitement about the upcoming project, highlighting the exceptional talent involved. “I’m excited to announce that we’re going into production this summer on a [comedy] from the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker,” said Robbins.
The project, which remains untitled at this stage, was first unveiled in 2022 with Vernon Chatman working on the script.
It’s unsure if Lamar will act in the project but he was and Free will produce the film through their company PGLang. Stone and Parker are not new to the world of film, having previously worked on projects like “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” and “Team America: World Police.”
The live-action comedy is positioned amidst a competitive summer release schedule, with other major films scheduled for release around the same time. However, Paramount is confident in the uniqueness and quality of their offering, as reflected in Robbins’ statement: “This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read.”
Details about the film’s plot are currently under wraps, Paramount Pictures will handle distribution across theaters, home entertainment, and television platforms, including streaming on Paramount+.
