Right after Eminem‘s appearance at the NFL Draft, the Detroit rapper officially announces his 12th studio album in the form of a short teaser which also shares its title, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). This comes almost a month after Dr. Dre confirmed that Eminem’s new album would be arriving later this year.
A short trailer for the album surfaced online following the rapper’s NFL cameo and it takes on a satirical scene of a true crime reporter seemingly discussing the death of Eminem’s famous alter ego, Slim Shady. In the clip, the reporter can be heard saying, “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.” A cameo of 50 Cent appears in the video as the reporter says, “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath. The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.” Eminem himself cameos and says, “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Since 1997, Slim Shady has been Eminem’s alter ego. With the Slim Shady EP and even The Slim Shady LP, Eminem has often embodied the character, delivering some of his most hard hitting songs. Watch the teaser below. The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) arrives this summer
