Is Jay Z really OVERRATED and does he deserve to be in the GOAT debate?
Jay Z is always ranked as one of the greatest rappers of all time by many sites and HipHop experts. Billboard ranked him as the GOAT rapper some years back which sparked a huge debate online. But does he rightfully deserve to be there?
Most definitely.
Why?
• Consistency
If we are talking about consistency, no one comes close to Jay Z in HipHop history. He has continued to be relevant in the rap game for 25+ years, adapting to different generations.
• Great story telling, flow and spits verses without writing.
Not many rappers are better story tellers than Jay. He’s definitely amongst the best when it comes to that, and also his ability to spit verses without writing them down is something only him and maybe few other rappers can boast of. In terms of word play and rhyming, Jay has slightly more complex rhyme-schemes and wordplay than most rappers have which has gotten him the status of a heavyweight lyricist
• Quality records
When it comes to making quality albums, no one does it better than Jay. There isn’t a single Jay Z album that you can call whack. This more crazy when you think of the fact that he has 13 Studio Albums and they are all lit.
• Influence.
People always want to listen to Jay Z’s verse, even those who criticize him. He’s set the bar so high for himself that people always have great expectations from him.
• Street credibility.
Jay Z is one of those rappers who came from a life of cr!me before making it in the music industry. He was a dr#g dealer before be came Hov. He’s respected in the streets.
And to crown it all, the fact that he has 24 Grammys to his name definitely shows how great a lyricist he is. And not to mention the number of rappers he has helped discover.
If you take all of the above into consideration, then you will have to agree that Jay Z rightfully deserves to be ranked amongst the Greatest rappers of all time
